Selected Student Feedback on Classroom Culture:

I feel like the classroom culture you try to create is kind of a whimsical intellectualism? I mean even when we talk outside of class or during worktime the topics are usually at least vaguely relevant to the material but they use a kind of fun and different angle. I remember last trimester you brought up a blog on like, eerie architecture or something, and connected it somehow to the emotions Rebel Without a Cause kind of creates. I remember less of modern euro lit, but I think that sort of creative exploration thing was also there. I don’t personally find the class stressful—I could probably push myself harder in terms of quality of my essays but overall I think the classroom environment mostly encourages like open and fun discussion of different creative ideas I wouldn’t necessarily entertain otherwise.

You’re really down to Earth and empathetic, but still seemed very confident in your teaching style. I got to know the first part about you during our time in Canyonlands, and I got to know the second part when you taught me during Modern Asian Lit. I always vibe-d really well with your way of teaching, which helped me learn the content more easily.

Your classes are typically very engaging and while (in my eyes) not super strictly regimented still gets things done. Some of the best lit discussions have been in your class and you are good about getting people who don’t talk to talk.

P.S. your voice is very soothing and makes me want to go to sleep which is both a benefit and a little bit of a curse now that I am tired.
